With 99 shows under our belt, we are getting closer to celebrating that big milestone. This week we welcomed back two previous Work Talk Show guests — Tom Webster and Tim Hayden. Tom has the distinction of being our very first guest here on the podcast and gave us several travel tips that we often reference. And the Tim Hayden? It doesn’t get much better than that! These two also just co-authored a book together — The Mobile Commerce Revolution.
What Do They Do? Tom Webster is Vice President, Strategy and Marketing of Edison Research with nearly 20 years of experience in media research, marketing strategy and product development. As the founder of TTH Strategy, Tim Hayden helps empower progress in the age of mobility. They recently brought their smarts together to write The Mobile Commerce Revolution. How did they get all of this done? Both the co-authorship and work in general? We couldn’t wait to catch up! How Do They Do It? As you can imagine, with two past guests, two crazy co-hosts, and four good friends, we had a lot of fun on this super-sized show that may defy show-note transcription! Here is the abridged version. In collaborating on the book, Tim started the process first. When Tom joined, they met in his dining room and mapped all of the content out via index cards (one of the most under-rated collaborative tools). As far as their respective work independent of one another, they actually have a lot in common. Both travel a lot, though both have gotten rid of their cars (more on that in the apps below). Tom works from home while Tim enjoys the vibrant atmosphere of Austin’s Capitol Factory. What Are the 3 Apps Tim and Tom Can’t Live Without? Tim loves Dashlane (for managing passwords for other apps), LiquidSpace (to reserve rooms and places to work), and RideScout (to find a bike or car). Tom can’t live without TripIt (he loves Pro for the text and gate alerts), Turbulence Forecast (for making smoother connections), and Uber (which he has a love/hate relationship with due to surge pricing). Shout-outs and Shameless Plugs! Nick gave a shout out to listener Stan Keith while DJ loved the episode that Stan tweeted about featuring Adrian Gostick. Tom plugged his Friday Five podcast which is returning for a second season soon with guests including Scott Monty, Alison Kramer, DJ Waldow, and Gini Dietrich. Tim also has a podcast coming soon, The Mobile Moment. Of course, both strongly encouraged you to pick up a copy of their new book, The Mobile Commerce Revolution, from your favorite bookseller. Finally, as always, we gave a shout to our tireless Chief Technical Officer Jess Ostroff at Don’t Panic Management.
