Mitch Joel takes exception to the term 'work-life balance' noting the disconnect that we are somehow not living while working. His work excites him and is part of is life. Instead Joel works to achieve what he calls "blend and "flow" in his life noting that we wakes up each day "like a horse at the gate" excited for both the life
and work that lies ahead.
Joel went on to describe life as being like a stool that needs all three legs to stand — community, business, personal. That's why Mitch doesn't mind
blogging and recording
podcasts on vacation (he calls writing and blogging "his version of playing golf"). But it also means when he travels for work he tries to get home on the same day, even if it means taking a red eye.
To make this easier, he's become a self-described "gear head" when it comes to travel gear. He was the one that first turned
Chris Brogan onto the Eagle Creek Tarmac bag (though Joel know prefers the
Eagle Creek Traverse 22). He also strives to make his office anywhere he can investing in the thinnest laptops with the most connectivity. As he says, these tools are "office rent, not office supplies."
For this weeks Shameless Plugs both DJ and Nick opted to schill with DJ promoting his online course,
Email Marketing Made Simple, and Nick his
Social Strategy Boot Camp. Mitch gave a shout out to Seth Godin's new book,
The Icarus Deception.
Until next week, see you on the internet!
