Show Notes

With 10 years of start-ups under his belt, Dan Martell knows how to get things done. Clarity, his latest venture, tackles productivity head on by connecting relevant experts with those who need their insights via phone. Clarity currently has 13,000 calls coming in from countries throughout the world. Like many start-up CEOs, Dan wears many hats but we were surprised to learn that he responds to the replies from their mass emails himself. That's because their virtual team of six "makers" all code but they also all interact with Clarity's members as well. Beyond building greater customer connection, this also helps the techs solve platform issues even faster.

While they all physically live in the same city, they don't work in the same place. They achieve this through a mix of daily stand-up video meetings via GoTo Meeting HD and having lunch live and in person on Fridays. They also use Hipchat to discuss things throughout the day and Basecamp for collaboration.

Personally speaking, Martell starts his day early, taking care of team meetings and staff interactions in the morning. In the afternoon he handles phone calls with investors and is usually able to leave early to pick up his son. After family time, Dan hops back online later in the evening for a few hours. His formula for what to focus on in life? Dan only does "high value things," hiring people to handle the more distracting, basic tasks in life such as lawn-mowing and other chores.

For shout-outs and shameless plugs, Nick mentioned his lunch with past guest John Michael Morgan and plugged his upcoming Social Strategy Boot Camp in Madison, WI. DJ referenced recent social conversations with upcoming guest David Shaw. Dan provided listeners with an incredible offer as he gave a shout to Clarity.fm. Until next week, we'll see you on the Internet!
